Well the 4th was yesterday had a good time with the whole family bbq’n, had our wiffle ball home run derby (My brother won by 1, lucky ass). Watched the fireworks did some fireworks drank a little all in all it was a fun night.

Earlier in the day i did a video of a great 4th song by Shooter Jennings called 4th of July. This song took me back. I used to listen to this album over and over it really is a great album. The album is called “Put to O back in country” so if you havn’t heard it i highly recommend it!

// Reminded by a fan//

I received something today that reminded me what my purpose for this music is. Sure it’s a way to express myself, and for people close to me that really know me they know i’m not one for talking or communicating on a regular basis. I tend to hold things in and then let it all out on paper or should i say type it out.Anyway the comment i got today made me realize i do it for others as well. For people who are experiencing situations i have experienced. To help them through it. To give them a peace of mind knowing they are not the only one’s that have or are going through whatever it is they are going through. So i thank the person who left me that comment for this reminder, Thank you.

// Update!//

Hello everyone I hope you all had a good fathers day yesterday. I myself had a day of miniature golf and bowling with my little girl and then a fancy dinner at ihop :) Anyway i would just like to give you all a quick update on everything so here goes.

- Studio album Many of you may know already but many may not. I have been working on a studio “country” album with a producer in Nashville his name is Jimmy Dulin he’s worked with artists like Jaron he had a hit im sure you’ve heard “I pray for you”. Anyway we have a one song left to cut and the plan is to be finished by July 1st. So hopefully release date won’t be much further maybe early Aug!

- Acoustic ep Last friday i posted a new song called Queen of breaking hearts. I’ve been getting a lot of messages from you guy’s wondering where you can download it. So i wanna let you know that this song will be available on itunes soon sometime in July maybe even in a few weeks. It will be on a 5 song Acoustic ep. So look out for that.

- Covers The cover songs you hear from now on will be available on itunes. Pretty soon none of my covers will be available on my site anymore. (I don’t wanna get in trouble)You should expect the first release “Covers. Collection 1” in the next week or so. The albums will consist of mostly new covers im doing as well as some old ones i havn’t put up for download yet.

- My second channel (Youtube 2) My second channel (derekcatemusic) if you havn’t already please subscribe to my second channel. There are a ton of original videos and soon there will be covers that i won’t be posting to my 1st channel. So be sure to subscribe to the second channel.

Youtube! The place to be

If you’re an artist/band and not on youtube then what are you doing!?

Youtube is where it’s at people. Fans love and want “LIVE” acoustic type music so do some covers and originals and post em up. Make sure you “tag” your videos right though and don’t expect to get millions or even thousands of views. Not saying you won’t though! In my opinion it’s harder these days to get a video to go viral or even hit thousands of views or get a ton of subscribers to your channel. Youtube is what 6 years old now? Everybody is doing it. So don’t get frustrated if your video gets a couple hundred views and you see someone else’s with hundred thousand or something because you have to think about all of the people covering that same song and we’re talking hundreds to thousands of people.

A tip if you’re after a ton of views and subs:

Cover a top 5 hit (particularly the #1 at the time) that is on the billboard hot 100 as soon as you can!Because that is what people are searching for most.

Take “friday” Rebecca Black for instance. As soon as that video went viral everybody jumped on that and did a cover or should i say “parody” of the song. Why? because everyone wanted to watch that video on youtube and if you got lucky your video came up in the search along with her video. That is where it’s at! If your video pops up in the search for a huge hit song then you’re getting a ton of views. But it isn’t that simple with the other thousands of folks covering that same song so you could say it’s about luck too.

Sure you can embed your video to every social networking site and ask all your friends to post it to FB and tweet it but all you need is one very popular song that you covered to show up in the search engine.

Oh and it helps if you’re actually good. Unless you’re a really hot chick it doesn’t matter then.
